This has driven my goals in life to create visual and audio content and this is my passion. I am a professional DJ and video Geek. I love people’s reactions as if they were surprised for the first time. This is why I love my job.

Position: Web Developer

I was born in the city of Guadalajara, but I have lived all of my life in Puerto Vallarta. I studied Computer Systems Engineering at ITESO in Guadalajara. Since I was a child I was fascinated with computers, but I never imagined that when I grew up I would work with computers. I had always thought that I was going to be a chef. When I´m not working coding cool sites, some of my hobbies are cooking, listening to music, playing video games and watching movies and TV shows.

Yesenia Cortés | BA in Philosophy

Position: Research Assistant + Copy

I am a Mexican, a cat person, and definitely a night owl. I am curious by nature; I learned how to read when I was 5 and I haven’t stopped ever since. As the daughter of English and Spanish teachers, I found my passion for languages and literature very early. I have a BA in philosophy and I aspire to be a professional translator and writer, as I love working with words in every possible way. I enjoy traveling, cultural experiences, art, cinema, gastronomy, cooking, and baking.

Aline Castañeda | BA in Modern English Literature

Position: Translator

I am a Mexican English/French translator with BA in Modern English Literature from the UNAM, in Mexico City. I worked for 15 years as a translator for a law firm dedicated to industrial and intellectual property, which was extremely boring. Then I was so lucky to come in contact with the Center for World Indigenous Studies and the fun began. I am the Managing Editor of the Fourth World Journal, Executive Assistant to Dr. Rudolph Rÿser and translator of Dr. Leslie Korn’s website. I’ve translated her book Preventing and Treating Diabetes Naturally which helped me not only to learn more about the disease but to improve my cooking skills. My main interest in life is food and the way we nourish ourselves physically and spiritually. I am happily married and have an 18-year-old son and an 18-month-old baby girl.

Max Montalbán | BA in Audiovisual Media

Position: Multimedia

I am a documentarian filmmaker with studies in cinema, anthropology, and history. I am passionate about cooking, eating, adventure, prehispanic cultures, music, art, and all things experimental. I like learning new things and working with different people. Thanks to my profession I have been able to live and collaborate in very different places in Mexico, trying to portray everything I have learned.

Irma Felix | BA in Psychology, MS in International Relations

Position: Research Assistant + Copy

I have been a student for most of my life. More than anything, I love learning. That’s why I studied psychology, a Master in International Relations, some graphic design courses, and languages. I think there is so much to learn, and being a research assistant allows me to keep my passion for knowledge alive. I love new experiences; last year I did a self-discovery journey from Mexico to South America and all the way up to Alaska. The result was paradoxical: the more I felt we are all the same and I connected to people, the more I recognized myself as proudly Mexican.

Nadine Brown | BA in English

Position: Producer

I studied at Pembroke College in Cambridge, England and graduated with a BA in English from UCLA. I have worked in the communications field since my environmental internship in Washington DC. I bring my skills and production chops to LKIIM educational videos. I have produced projects for numerous organizations including University of Washington, United States Postal Service, Google, Microsoft, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox Family Channel, The Health Network and The Learning Channel. I produced films including “The Bones Brigade – An Autobiography” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival; Sean Dunne’s film “Oxyana”, a feature length documentary about Oxycontin abuse in West Virginia that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, and the short film “The Rhino Guardians” which focused on the Black Mambas, an all female anti-poaching organization in South Africa. In 2019 I produced two episodes for Vice China, focusing on the opinions surrounding cultural appropriation. I love to hike in the mountains and travel the world.

Position: Resident Dog Herbalist

My name is Xoco pronounced “sho-ko,” it’s short for Xocolatl, the Nahua name for Chocolate. I am so named because I am a chocolate Havanese. My body is small but my ideas are big. When I am not eating, sleeping or walking, I earn my keep by helping to soothe Dr. Korn’s patients who are anxious and distressed. Love comes naturally to me and I am always in a good mood. I eat freshly made food daily with my many vitamins so I can keep on top of the latest happenings.
